Blank Sales Spotlight – Amy Aderman

The new kids, they always get all the attention…

It is our goal to use this blog space to introduce you to the sales force of The Blank Quilting Corp. and Studioe Fabrics. It just so happens that at the same time we had this brilliant idea, we also have a new rep.

Meet Amy Aderman.

Amy is cut from the same cloth (pardon the pun) of many others that rep for the sister companies of The Blank Quilting Corp. and Studioe Fabrics in that she is also an avid quilter, award-winning in fact.

Amy lives in Lafayette, LA which is in the southwest part of the state – the heart of Cajun Country.  She has been sewing since she was a small child and became a quilter about 6 years ago. She has had a few creative jobs such as designing children’s clothing patterns, making decorative accessory samples and owned a small custom drapery/home decór business. She has also taught a few sewing/quilting classes and tinkered with some sewing machine repairs. But in recent years, she has been doing office and bookkeeping work – waiting for a fresh new ‘creative’ opportunity to come along.

So in December when the rep who had that territory left, a quilt shop owner called Amy, knowing that she would be perfect for the job.

“I started at the end of January and am thrilled to be doing something where I can connect to other creative people who share my love for fabrics!” she says. “What has surprised me the most is I always thought I was more introverted, but I have common ground with shop owners, and we immediately have a connection. This has been a really exciting change for me.”

Now to toot her horn a little bit, Amy has won a 2nd place ribbon in 2015 Machine Quilting Expo (MQX) with this quilt entitled “Entwined.” It was one of four selected to be featured on MQX 2016 calendar.  It also won a Teacher’s Choice ribbon in 2015 Machine Quilters Showcase (MQS).

Her quilt “Facets” won 1st place ribbon in a local guild challenge, won Judges Choice ribbon in Hot Springs Area Quilt Guild 2015 Show and won a Teacher’s Award ribbon in 2015 Home Machine Quilting Show (HMQS).  It was selected to be part of an exhibit currently on display at Acadiana Council for the Arts Museum, Lafayette, LA.

She is inspired by and has taken classes from Phillipa Naylor and Sue Nickels on machine quilting on a home machine, an area where she now considers herself to be particularly adept. More recently she has added appliqué, fabric dying and paper piecing to her skill set.

And if she wasn’t already busy, she manages and contributes content to her local quilt guild’s blog. She is a past-president of the guild, and is now membership chair.

Amy loves attending the International Quilt Association shows in Houston, and is now a member of the Modern Quilt Guild. “I am very interested in the Modern Quilt movement and am learning to break the rules and add more experimentation into my style.” she says.

It was great catching up with Amy, we all wish her luck in the sales field. If you are a shop in Louisiana, Mississippi, lower Alabama, or in the Florida panhandle, this is your girl!

And don’t worry Amy, you won’t be the new kid for long!

Blank Q-Bies and their Glorious Hexagons

Introduction to the Blank Quilting Q-bies

We at The Blank Quilting Corp. can’t get over how talented our very own sales reps are. Not only are they talented in selling our fabric collections, but also for knowing this business inside and out as a result of their passion for quilt making, the quilting community and the art and craft of this fabric-inspired tradition.

Meet Veronica Hofman-Ortega—sales rep extraordinaire by day and instructor, free-motion quilting enthusiast and contemporary art quilter in her free-time. She and a few other sales reps, who are also quilters, have begun a year long challenge to ‘quilt along’ with a program put forth by Paper Pieces called the Glorious Hexagons Quilt Along which uses the English paper piecing technique.

Paper Pieces [a.k.a. the Hexie House] is a store that offers tools, supplies, patterns, books, instruction and inspiration for English paper piecing and today’s busy quilter. The store is located in Paducah, KY, which is, not surprisingly, in Veronica’s sales territory. The Glorious Hexagon program was inspired by the book from Katja Marek, called “The New Hexagon,” and sparked an interest with Veronica on a visit to the store last fall.

Veronica posts about her journey along the English Paper Piecing path on her blog, FiberAnticsbyVeronica.com, as well as the other quilting and teaching roads she ventures down. She has also urged her fellow sojourners from the ranks of The Blank Quilting Corp. and Studioe Fabrics sales team to join her in the Glorious Hexagon Quilt Along/  And now, of course you can join in the fun too! Through collaboration with fellow rep, Gay Cooper, there is a new Facebook Group page called Blank Quilting Q-bies which was created for the group to post photos, progress and comments about their Glorious Hexagon results.

During the next several months, The Blank Quilting blog will follow along too and we can all witness the beauty and transformation that can occur when you combine colorful fabrics, a little stitching know-how and packets of paper polygons. Follow along, or quilt along, we are happy to have you join us.  So hop on board and come along for the ride as it should be a real blast.
