Scott’s Stories: Introducing The Stof Fabric Line For The Blank Quilting Corp.

Have you heard the news?  The sales reps that currently carry The Blank Quilting Corp., Studioe Fabrics and A.E. Nathan Co., Inc. lines are going to be offering a new line for sale.  As of October 1st, our reps will also be carrying lines from Stof Fabrics of Denmark.  Stof has been a partner of my family of businesses for many years as an excellent overseas distributor.  In my concerted efforts to get more products for the sales reps, I feel that this will certainly add to the diversity of the current offering.  I am very excited about this opportunity and feel that our team is going to definitely do the Stof lines justice.

I feel that the Stof lines will diversify what our reps offer for the following reasons:

  • The Stof designs are very different from the current quilt shop offerings from Blank & Studioe.  The differences have to do with the colorings, the subject matter and the styling.
  • The Stof lines are all produced in Japan whereas the Blank & Studioe lines are predominantly produced in Korea.
  • The Stof lines definitely have a more European feel vs. the Blank & Studioe more American styled lines.

Now let me give you some other basic information which will hopefully help you decide to purchase Stof from our sales team.  I have heard from many shops that they have had much success with the Stof lines so that is definitely a strong positive. One big advantage that you will get from purchasing the lines from our team is that the lines will ship sooner than the distributors. The reason is that we are shipping directly from the mills in Japan to our warehouse, whereas the others are buying straight from Stof out of Denmark after shipping from Japan.

The first lines that we are offering for sale can be purchased from October 1 to December 4, possibly longer.  So make sure to get in touch with your rep asap so that you don’t miss the purchasing window. The Stof fabrics can be shipped anytime from end April to end June. There most likely won’t be additional opportunities to buy these lines again i.e. no reorders. The reason for no reorders is that we hope to bring all the purchased lines in to the US at one time from Japan….hopefully we can sell enough to fill an entire container.  So make sure to order what you need on the first shot.  We expect to have more new lines to offer from Stof later this year and several times throughout the year.

We are calling the lines Stof for The Blank Quilting Corp.  The reason for that is that we wanted to ship the goods out of our contract shipping and double and rolling facility in Clifton, NJ, where Blank is shipped from.  That being said, Stof will be treated completely separate from Blank.  The orders cannot be combined.  The five bolt minimum for Stof is in tact.  Stof & Blank won’t ship together.  Stof and Blank will be billed separately.

That is all the news I have for you at this time on the subject. Hopefully, I have provided enough information for you to decide that you would like to purchase the lines from our talented sales team. Please get in touch with your sales rep right away about ordering or feel free to email to find out how you can purchase Stof from us.  We are anxious to get this started and are hopeful to be carrying the Stof lines for a long time in to the future with your help. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve you.

Until my next story, signing off…

Leslie White is the new owner of the Bernina We’re in Stitches store in Greenville, South Carolina. They recently moved to their new location at 2310A East North Street, which is only a mile or so from the previous address. Parking is available right in front of the store. The store layout is open and very eye pleasing with a large classroom in back. Leslie and her friendly staff are well versed in quilting as well as embroidery, smocking (hand sewing) and garment construction. They carry a good selection of wide back fabrics (108″ wide) and an excellent group of children’s prints, brights and contemporary fabrics.

If you are in the Greenville, SC area or perhaps in town to drop off a college student, be sure to look them up! You will be glad you did!

Sometimes we take for granted the amazing things that are right in front of our eyes.  For example, whenever people come to New York City they visit places like the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty.  I can’t remember the last time I went to either of those place…I think i was a kid.  Anyway, the point is that I have lived in Roslyn, NY for over 7 years now.  I finally took the time, with my wife and kids, to see the Nassau County Museum of Art.  They had a great Chagall, Dali and Miro exhibition.  It really was quite nice.  Anyway, this is a mummy sculpture that was on the grounds of the museum.  It is pretty neat.  What do you think?

85th Anniversary Blog Hop

Welcome! Jaftex is the parent company of Henry Glass & Co., Studioe Fabrics and Blank Quilting and we are excited today to kick off the celebrations for the Jaftex 85th Anniversary Blog Hop.

Scott Fortunoff

Dear Friends,
We are so excited to see all of the projects made in honor of Jaftex’s first ever blog hop and 85th Anniversary celebration.  Jaftex is the parent of several companies, 3 of which cater solely to quilt shops only:  The Blank Quilting Corp., Henry Glass Fabrics & Studioe Fabrics.  Each of these companies and its employees could not be more proud to be a part of this special celebratory blog hop.  Thanks to all of our dear friends that contributed their time, skills and social media prowess in order to make this blog hop a huge hit.  We could not have achieved such great results without your contributions.  It means a lot to us that so many people were willing to step up on behalf of our companies and our family.  We truly value your friendship and partnership.  Thanks a million!

Being part of a family business is very special and rewarding in so many different ways.  At the current time, the third (Robert) and fourth generation (Scott & Greg) of the Fortunoff’s are holding down the fort, with several from the fifth generation on deck.  With 85 years behind us, we look forward to what lies ahead especially as this industry continues to transform with lots of new advancements.  We are excited to see what the future will bring and hope that you continue on this amazing journey with our family as we get closer to the very big and exciting 100
th anniversary.

As we look toward the future, we would remiss if we didn’t talk about the past.  Thanks toJacob A. Fortunoff, the JAF in Jaftex, for having the guts to go out and start his own business.  We could only imagine what effort was involved with starting a business from scratch in the early 1900’s.  Thank you to Jacob’s sons, Everett & Dan, for their contributions to the business too.   Each generation certainly faced challenges along the way and luckily no one gave up the quest to keep Jaftex alive.  There is no doubt that all of these Fortunoff ancestors are looking down at us and smiling to know that their legacy lives on.
Thanks again to everyone involved, both past and present.

Robert, Scott & Greg Fortunoff

We invited over 30 designers, quilt industry friends and bloggers to help us celebrate. Bundles of Henry Glass’ Folio Basics, Studioe’s Peppered Cottons or Blank’s Splash were sent to our friends and we asked them to make something special for our blog hop. They did not disappoint! Each day we will reveal the designs on the designers’ blogs. We are starting the blog hop with Kim Diehl guest posting on the American Patchwork & Quilting blog. Enjoy!

You can find Kim Diehl’s beautiful designs on her website or read all about her daily process on Facebook.  Currently she is working on her upcoming collection Sunday Best and her new Simple Whatnots Club 4 collection.
